Hollywood’s calculation Internet + TV = an - Tiff

by admin on Jul.29, 2010, under Affliction

One way or another, standards are making their way to the world of online video. For example, the just-announced UltraViolet video format, proposed by the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem, could bring some much-needed consistency to the way that video downloads are formatted, delivered and played back on everything from PCs to TVs. (If only Apple would get on board, that is … )

Follow me on Twitter and join me on Facebook!

Now there’s another standard in the works, Ars Technica says, designed to handle more traditional broadcasting as we know it. It’s envisioned as a replacement for the CableCARD connector and the standard cable box — a connector that would extend broadcasting operations beyond just your cable company, finally opening the TV portal to the entire Internet, all via one plug.

Called AllVid,Tiffany, the adapter would be a new standard that would let you connect essentially any video source (cable, satellite, YouTube) to any playback device (PC,ugg, laptop, those wacky TV glasses). When you want to find something to watch, you simply search for a program among any and every source you have connected to your AllVid device, whether that’s HBO, Netflix, an online TV network, or even the catalog of home movies you have stored on a hard drive in the basement.

And Hollywood? Well, Hollywood’s just not so sure about all of this.

At issue is — as always — the specter of piracy. Studios and networks are concerned that they’ll have to not only compete with unauthorized sources of their own content (as they do already) but compete with them over the same connection. It’s a reasonable complaint: Faced with watching “Pit Boss” on cable vs. the same show with the commercials stripped out courtesy of a pirate website, all on the same television and with the click of a button, well, I can understand why many viewers would simply take the ad-free avenue.

Of course, the Motion Picture Association of America isn’t just worried about its pockets; it worries about you, too. AllVid “could expose unsuspecting consumers and their children to undesirable content, such as pornography, viruses, and spam,” the MPAA told the Federal Communications Commission (PDF).

That may be a bit much, of course. But Hollywood is desperately trying to protect the rickety fence that still surrounds its backyard — and the mother of all of those fears is, of course, Google TV, the impending made-for-television service that represents perhaps the biggest and most notable jump from Web to television we’re seen so far. Google is a supporter of AllVid.

Will it fly? AllVid is just a concept right now, and without Hollywood’s support it’ll be a hard sell. There’s no guarantee such an idea would even work, either. But the idea at least sounds good on paper: One pipe for video, wherever you want to watch it.

Anthony calls album ‘the soundtrack’ o - Calvin Kl

by admin on Jul.22, 2010, under Christian Dior

“Perales wrote me immediately the sweetest note saying he was proud of the song. … Juan Gabriel sent me a beautiful letter saying he was honored that I chose his songs, that he was very proud of me. It really took me by surprise,” he said.

Anthony said he listened to these songs as a kid growing up in New York City.

The finished album, released in late May,Calvin Klein, was on top of Billboard’s tropical albums chart for several weeks. It includes covers of romantic classics by Mexicans Juan Gabriel and Jose Jose and Spaniard Jose Luis Perales, and Spanish ballads like “El triste,” “Y como es el” and “Amada amante.”

NEW YORK – Marc Anthony calls his latest album, “Iconos,” one of his most satisfying, but the crooner acknowledges experiencing a roller-coaster of emotions while he was recording it.

Before the year ends, he plans to release a salsa album.

His favorite is “Almohada,” a Jose Jose hit from the 1970s.

“I felt the gravity of the responsibility … and also in the studio I felt the insecurity, the absolute bliss, uncertainty, total satisfaction, fear,” he recalled in a recent interview. “You invest all these years in this project. … You go to the studio and you say, ‘What do I have to offer? This song is perfect! Am I gonna fall short?’ … And then it’s over, and wow.”

Lopez was not the only star to appreciate the album. Anthony has received positive comments from some of the original singers of the ballads.

“The arrangement is so cinematic. … Even if you take the lyrics off there is a story,” said the 41-year-old musician. “The song challenged me. … It captures the challenge that making this album was.”

Anthony, who has enjoyed great success singing both English pop and Spanish salsa, is on a tour of Latin America that will take him to Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Chile. He returns to the United States on Sept. 10 with a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The order of the songs was chosen by his superstar wife, Jennifer Lopez.

“I was raised with these songs that my parents listened to never realizing it was going to be the soundtrack of my life,” he said, speaking in a mixture of Spanish and English. “Today I realize it and I get amazed by their importance.”

“That time has come: I can’t sleep anymore. That’s when I know I’m ready, when I can’t sleep thinking of the next project,” he said, laughing. “We have the pot on the stove and we’re getting the ingredients together to cook that salsa.”

The album, produced by Marc Anthony and Julio Reyes,Bape, features 10 songs, two of them original. While he sings songs by his favorite singers, Anthony said the selections were not made because of the artist but because of the song.

“Jennifer absolutely loved it! She was there every step of the way. She actually sequenced the album. She’s my muse,” he said proudly.

For Arianna Huffingto Wholesale Dolce Gabbana Jean

by admin on Jul.14, 2010, under Hollister

Shoppers looking for shoes at Barneys’ Beverly Hills store last night got more than they bargained for: Specifically, Arianna Huffington, Huffington Post senior editor Willow Bay, Barneys’ Julie Gilhart, and designer Rozae Nichols discussing sustainability, the death of print media, and “joy-triggers” (a term Huffington coined for the simple pleasures in life). They’d gathered to celebrate the Barneys launch of Nichols’ Ian line (named for her husband, but for ladies only), which creates joy-triggers of the laser-cut dress variety.wholesale clothing. “For me it’s all about the classics…pieces that won’t be obsolete wholesale and that will work for you,” Nichols (pictured with Huffington) said of her creations.brand clothing, which are inspired by minimalist art and by her travels.

Given that Ian is manufactured locally in Los Angeles, and that human and labor rights is a central issue for Nichols, it usurped a large portion of the panel’s focus. It’s an issue that was also close to the heart of one notable attendee, Waris Ahluwalia. “If I get something, it’s from brands I believe in,” says Ahluwalia who,Wholesale Dolce Gabbana Jeans, in fact, gets most of his clothes custom-made. “I work with craftsmen around the world; I know their families. I know how they work and I know how they function. We’ve been separated from where things are made, whether it’s food or clothing. I know where my eggs come from and I want to know where my clothes come from. It’s consumption and it can’t just be blind.”

Huffington, on the other hand, leaves her decision making, at least when it comes to shopping, to her daughters. “When I go to a store, it’s always with my daughters. I never go on my own,” admitted the media mogul, who was wearing her own Ian white silk blouse with gold embellished overlay (a Huffington family pick). “I typically go to the places they want to go, and I love to see the new trends and what the young people are buying.” Occasionally, though,Wholesale Abercrombie shorts clothing, the young people do not love to see what she’s bought. “I remember once I was leaving the house,” Huffington laughed, “wholesale and my daughter [said over] the intercom, ‘Fashion emergency, do not let her leave the house.’”

Pre-collections offer designers the opportunity to experiment wholesale and test out new ideas, but they’re also a good time to riff on the best sellers—the Resort collection spends a long time on the sales floor, after all. The new weekender model comes in two sizes,Wholesale Affliction clothing, a medium wholesale and a large (they’ll retail for $1.brand clothing,150 and $1,350, respectively, when they go on sale in December), that look every bit as cool as their predecessors. No way.

She nods to stars who weren’t so lucky: “There are many people we’ve seen lost in this business because other people haven’t stopped to make sure they’re OK, you know? People are aware when others are breaking, but in this town they don’t tend to stop and help them. In the end, it costs a life.”
